Cell phones: Retailers may still be clearing out last year’s stock of cell phones, and they’ll sometimes offer kooky deals for couples around Valentine’s Day. Take a look at major cell phone retailers to see if they have any lingering year-end contract deals or if they’re offering significant discounts on older cell phone models. You may be able to pick up decently priced cell phone and a discounted cell phone contract in February and March.
Furniture: New furniture styles tend to hit in the spring, so retailers spend February and March clearing out the older styles to make room for the next round of furniture. Take advantage of this showroom rotation buy browsing last year’s models of tables, chairs, beds and other large furniture at major furniture retailers.
Winter coats and shoes: As soon as the snow begins to thaw and the temperature begins to creep upwards, prices begin to drop on winter coats and shoes. Big shoe stores and major department stores need to make room for their spring collections, so take advantage of great discounts on heavy coats, stylish boots and winter gear as we move into the spring.
Video games: Now that the holidays are over, retailers are more likely to drop their prices on the “must-have” games of the year. While these games might not still be exactly cheap, they’ll likely be discounted from their original prices in the late fall and early winter.
Chocolate: If you can hold off until after February 14 to get your chocolate fix, you could gobble up loads of chocolate at a significant discount – and this includes everything from gourmet truffles to bags of fun-sized candy. Just be sure to wait until after the Valentine’s Day sugar rush before you make your cocoa purchases.
Formal and Prom Dresses: February and March means we’re in between two major formal dress seasons: Homecoming in the fall and Prom in the spring. If you’re proactive and willing to shop early, you could snatch up a great deal on a formal dress for your prom dance in the spring.
