Are you interested in making a supplemental income online? Then writing for Hubpages may be just what you need! Without question, a corporate lawyer makes more money on his coffee break than a writer makes in eight days of keyboard-pounding, head-scratching, caffeine-brimming labor. And the suit-and-tie lawyer will always boast a higher salary than the pajamas-and-socks writer, but there is still money to be made penning punctuation. Websites like Hubpages assist aspiring writers in achieving their authorship and financial goals.
What Is Hubpages?
Hubpages is a user-generated content site where authors (“Hubbers”) publish articles or single-page websites (“Hubs”). Membership is free and authors retain all intellectual rights to their documents. Blogging and first-person writings are not encouraged; professional sales articles, magazine-style documents and researched editorials are accepted.
How do Authors Make Money with Hubpages?
Hubpages does not pay for good writing. Dante Alighieri or John Milton could write for Hubpages every day and die in abject poverty. What pays is promotion, not perfection. Hubpages offer Hubbers several main methods to find golden treasure, and the elusive “X” – which marks the spot – is sales.
Page Promotion
Each author has his or her own responsibility to promote pages. Self promotion has three parts: keyword research, links, referral and quality content. Keywords should be well-researched and focused. Use backlinks to help Internet spiders, and most importantly, write quality content that people want to read.
The following four programs are part of Hubpages Affiliate Marketing program:
The Google God
Google Adsense is a virtual idol for online writers and webmasters. One of the premiere advertisement partners, Adsense works with authors to generate passive income per advertisement click. Income is split 60/40 in the author’s favor. This does not mean that an author receives 60 percent of the total generated revenue – rather, an author’s Adsense ID is randomly paired with a listed advertisement six out of ten times.
Amazing Amazon
Amazon is more than a bookworm’s paradise. Writers who are affiliated with Amazon can write a product review or an article about a product listed on Amazon. In return, Amazon posts a capsule on the author’s Hub. For every resulting conversion, Amazon pays the author a share of the revenue.
Click on Kontera
Kontera uses in-text contextual advertising. Clicking or hovering over linked text displays a small, pop-up advertisement on top of the displayed page. Like Google Adsense, Kontera pays Hubbers a certain share of generate revenue per advertisement click.
Similar to Amazon, Ebay partners with Hubbers to add capsules and advertisements to an affiliated author’s page. Authors receive revenue per advertisement click or product conversion.
Make no mistake; there is money to be made writing for Hubpages. Granted, the corporate lawyer with his coffee and suit will always command a bigger check than the writer. But lawyers can’t work in pajamas. So keep writing.
