I confess, I’m an RSS junkie. I monitor more than 200 news feeds daily looking for the most interesting articles and blog posts about your home, money, credit and life to share on our Quizzle Twitter page. In case you missed ‘em, I’m gathering the “best of” here in a weekly roundup.

Credit Reports, Scores & Cards

Free Credit Report and Credit Score Online Sites Comparison (Moolanomy)

The Web is filled with misinformation about “free” credit report and “free” credit score websites. Moolanomy boils it down into a concise, easy to read comparison chart that shows you where the real deals are. For the ONLY website that gives you both a free credit report and free credit score, check out our very own Quizzle. No catches, no trial subscriptions, no credit card required.

New Credit CARD Act Provisions; Will Your Credit Cards Be Affected? (Quizzle Blog)
The first of the Credit CARD Act of 2009 provisions went into effect on August 20. Creditors must now provide consumers 45 days written notice before increasing one’s annual percentage rate (APR) or making significant changes to the terms of a credit account. Creditors are also required to mail bill statements at least 21 days before the payment due date.

On the Job Hunt

45% of Employers Now Screen Social Media Profiles (Mashable)

Nearly one in two companies is now checking social media profiles of job candidates as part of the hiring process, according to Harris Interactive.  What’s more is 35 percent of employers reported finding content on social networking sites that caused them to not hire a candidate. Lesson: Be careful what you publish on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and other social networking sites!

Personal Finance & Budgeting

9 Really Weird Ways to Make Money (Moolanomy)

When your budget is in the toilet and all you want is to climb out of debt, the most amusing annoying advice is: “Just make more money.” Well, shucks, why didn’t I think of that?! Believe it or not, there are some creative ways to pad your wallet with a little extra cash. Granted, not methods you may have thought of, but methods nonetheless.

Real Estate & Home Value

Homeowners Still Deluded (CNBC)

There appears to be a disconnect between what American homeowners believe their homes are worth and what they’re really worth. Sixty percent of homeowners surveyed thought their home lost some of its value in the last year, according to a report from Zillow, when in reality, 83 percent of home values depreciated.

Homes still affordable – really affordable (CNNMoney)

If you’re thinking about buying a home – and maybe even if you’re not – it’s the best market for home buyers in nearly two decades. According to the National Association of Home Builders and Wells Fargo, the typical American family could afford to buy nearly three quarters of all homes sold in the United States in the second quarter. Think of it this way: homes are on sale! Get ‘em while they’re hot!

[Shameless plug] Need some help finding a home that’s right for you and your family? Contact our friends (and sister company) at In-House Realty: (866) 964-6468. They’re like the “the 1-800-DENTIST of real estate agents.”
